Gharst and Sutton Victorious on "Night of the Twins" at
34 Raceway!

(Bill W) August 21, 2010 – Kaley Gharst and Matt Sutton emerged victorious on the “Dirt, Dust and Speed Night of the Twins” at 34 Raceway near West Burlington, Iowa on Saturday night.  The win in the first feature was Gharst’s fourth of the year with the series, while Sutton took his first of the season.
The night was highlighted by a tribute to the late Brian Hetrick, and a meet and greet with Josh Schneiderman, who finished 13th in last week’s Knoxville Nationals and did a set of hot laps for the fans with his 410.
Gharst battled with Ben Wagoner the first couple of laps before taking control of the first 20-lap feature after taking Kevin Hetrick’s green flag.  Joey Moughan was the man on the move in the event, driving from 12th to 4th by lap seven.  A restart for a sixth-running Donnie Steward who tipped over on lap nine, saw Moughan grab the third position.  Disaster struck on lap 13, when he went over the berm and had to restart at the tail.
Meanwhile, Gharst was cruising up front and tallied his series career record 17th win.  “A big part of it was getting to start up front in the clean air,” said Kaley.  “We had a good race there with Ben for a lap or two.  We really had planned on running the top, but the bottom worked so well, that I stayed down there.  It helped that they reworked the track and brought some moisture back.  Our guys did a good job of staying on top of it.”
Russ Hall made a move at the midway point to get by Wagoner for second.  “It was a tricky track,” he said.  “It was really heavy on one end, and slick on the other.  We bided our time with Ben, and then I thought I may have a shot at Kaley in traffic on the last lap.  We just couldn’t get him.  I need to thank my Dad and Mike Waddell for all the hard work they’ve done to get this car ready the last couple of weeks.  I also have to thank Dwight Snodgrass for loaning the engine.”
David Hall was the hard-charger in both events.  In the first he ran from 10th to 3rd.  Wagoner settled for fourth ahead of Jarrod Schneiderman in the first event.
With all cars on the lead lap in feature one inverted, Gharst started inside row eight in the nightcap.  John Schulz started up front, and led lap one after Jim Hetrick’s green flag fell.  Moughan had another rocket ship on his hands in the first night in Doc Sloan’s #A12.  He moved into second from row three on the first lap, and after several tries at Schulz, took the point on lap five.
Moughan built a comfortable lead until hitting heavy lapped traffic.  Matt Sutton, who won the Shake-up Dash earlier, drove into second, and set his sights on Moughan.  Using the lapped car of Max Pozsgai as a pick, he grabbed the lead on lap 17.  A lap later, the only caution of the event flew for a spun Joe Beaver.
Sutton and Moughan left the rest behind on the restart for the green, white, checker finish.  On the final lap, Moughan slid in front of Sutton for the lead in turn four, but bicycled a bit.  Sutton brought his car back on the low side and powered to the win.  “I have to apologize to my crew about how much I stunk up the first feature,” said an excited Sutton.  “I knew Joey would be tough.  I knew he would make that move on the bottom that last lap.  I was sure hoping my move would stick, and it did.  I was just happy to get a win, and it sure is good to see Jim and Joyce (Hetrick) here.”
“I had to try to redeem myself after the mistake in the first one,” said Moughan, who finished second.  “I think I was a little rusty after not racing for two weeks.  I had a hard time getting around those guys (lapped traffic) in the second one.  They didn’t know I was there.  I finally got through them and had a shot at the win, but we hopped a little bit there.  I’d just like to thank Doc Sloan for giving me an opportunity to drive this car.  It’s really fast.”
Ryan Jamison made a late move into third, ahead of hard-charger, Gharst, and Schulz.  Earlier in the night, Gharst, Russ Hall and Steward took the heats.  Sutton took the Ed Schulties Shake-Up Dash, and 14 year old Jake Blackhurst took the BBeaver took the $100 Storm Steel Mystery Spot in the second feature.
The Sprint Invaders next action will be on Friday, September 3 at the CJ Speedway in Columbus Junction, Iowa.

Jamison takes his second feature at Peoria Speedway on Sunday, August 1 at the Sprint Summer Shootout.

Ryan Jamison Wins Sprint Invaders Round at Peoria!

(Bill W) August 1, 2010 - Ryan Jamison led late in July and ended up second to Kaley Gharst at the Cedar County Raceway. Sunday, he turned the tables on Gharst, taking a lap four lead and driving to his first 2010 win with the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders at the Peoria Speedway in Illinois at the Kitchen Cooked Sprint Car Summer Shootout.

Matt Rogerson, returning to competition in Andy Huston's 305 #40x machine, spun before a lap could be completed. The high-banked 1/4 mile track yielded two and sometimes three clear racing grooves. Gharst shot out to the early lead in the 25-lap feature busting the cushion on top of the banking. Jamison was persistent in taking the lead on lap four.

Two laps later, Rogerson spun again, collecting his teammate, Huston. Jamison led Gharst, Matt Sutton, Bret Tripplett and Bobby Mincer back to green on the restart. At the halfway point, Jamison, Gharst and Sutton were still one, two, three, followed by Korey Weyant and Mincer.

The race came to an end for Jordan Goldesberry and Ben Wagoner when they contacted on the frontstretch on lap fourteen. Jamison shot out to another lead, utilizing the bottom of the track and cruised to the win. "The key was really hitting my spots, and also being patient," he said. "Slowing down to go fast was important tonight. Tipton (Cedar County) bummed me out a bit, because I thought we could have got that one too. I'm just glad we can still win one!"

Gharst was true to the cushion atop the high banks and finished second, after winning his heat and the dash. "We were good on the top, and Jamison was able to get under us," he said. "We were pretty even with him, but we would bobble and he would pull away again. We got to traffic and the yellow would come out. We really needed that traffic, but 'shoulda, coulda, woulda."

Sutton also rode the rim to third. "Chris (McGraw) had our car dialed in really nice all night," he said. "We were really good all night long. I thought we had a shot at the dash, and the run in the feature was good. It was awful fun to run with Ryan and Kaley. I'd also like to congratulate Ryan on his win."

A three-way battle for fourth went to Mincer, ahead of Donnie Steward and Tripplett. Hard-charger Jim Moughan Jr., Scott Thiel and Kyle Chady rounded out the top ten. Heats were won by Sutton, Gharst, Jamison and Wagoner. Gharst also took the Kitchen Cooked Shake-up Dash and Moughan won the B.

Next up, the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders head to the Knox County Speedway in Knoxville, Illinois and the Knox County Fair on Thursday, August 1.

Kaley Gharst Thrills Cedar County Crowd With Sprint Invaders Win!

(Bill W) July 15, 2010 - Kaley Gharst won at the Cedar County Raceway in Tipton, Iowa on Thursday night, and in turn, put himself on top of the all-time feature winners' list with a total of 15 series win in his short career.  The 22 year old driver from Decatur, Illinois also recorded a win in June at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa.

Gharst started the 25-lap main event on the outside of row one, and took the immediate lead ahead of pole-sitter Bobby Mincer and heat and dash winner, Jamie Veal.  Ryan Jamison, who had struggled in his heat race utilized the bottom to move into fourth by the second lap.

The race went non-stop and by the midway point, Gharst was entering lapped traffic and a torrid battle for second, through fifth was on between Mincer, Jamison, Veal and Donnie Steward.

With lapped cars utilizing the high side of the banked 1/4 mile, Gharst had to find his way through traffic.  Jamison advanced to second and challenged the lead before taking the point on lap 16.  Three laps later on open track, Gharst was able to shoot back around Jamison for the lead for good.  Veal was able to grab the runner-up spot with two to go.

Gharst struggled in the dash, but rebounded.  "We struggled a bit early in the night, but the car was working well early on in the feature," he said.  "The top was working well, and we were good up there in clean air.  I tried the bottom a couple times, but couldn't get anything going down there."

Gharst talked of Jamison's pass for the lead.  "I don't know what he was getting a hold of down there, but he got me.  Once I cleared the lapped cars, I was able to get up top and get back around him.  It started taking rubber a car length off the cushion and I finally found it with a few laps to go."

The Plath Motorsports #14P team grabbed their second win in 2010 with the Sprint Invaders.  "John (Plath) wasn't here tonight, but he comes to the shop and works on it every night," said Kaley.  "Randy (Plath), Nick (Breuer), Lucas (Glasgow) and my dad chipped in tonight.  All I had to do was hit the throttle and hold on."

Veal's second place finish was the Aussie's best yet in the States.  "At the start we were a tad tight, but by the end it took a bit of rubber and I came down a bit," he said.  "We had a good car.  It was a track that reminded me of home.  I think we had one of the fastest cars tonight, so we'll keep our head up and go to the next one."

Jamison's third place run came utilizing the low groove for 25 laps.  "I set up for the bottom, because the top was smooth and I figured a lot of people would be up there," he said.  "We had the bottom nailed, and that's how we drove by them all.  We were able to lead it for awhile there, but some rubber came in up high and Kaley was able to get back by us late.  We had a good run.  We probably don't let it all hang out in the heat, because the feature is what pays.  To finish first, first you must finish."

Mincer was fourth ahead of Russ Hall, who faded far back in the field at the drop of the green, but recovered for sixth.  Steward. Ben Wagoner, Matt Sutton, Justin Parrish and Mike Houseman Jr. rounded out the top ten.

Next up, the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders head to the Peoria Speedway in Peoria, Illinois on Sunday, August 1.

DRIVER SPOTLIGHT
      JARROD SCHNEIDERMAN

Jarrod Schneiderman, #88 360 Sprint

by Joanne Cram

In only his third season in a sprint car, West Burlington’s Jarrod Schneiderman is making his debut at
Knoxville’s weekly competition this season.  His brother, Josh, has raced Knoxville, as well as Sprint Invaders
for the past several seasons- and Jarrod was ready to add one more car to the Deuce Motorsports team.
This is car number 3 in the Deuce Motorsports racing venture, as his uncle, John Schulz also races Sprint Invaders.

With Jarrod’s father, Bart, being deeply involved in sprint car racing over the years, it should come as no surprise
that Jarrod should be the next racer in the family to join in the racing action.  Jarrod’s brother, dad, and uncle
all have inspired him over the years to continue moving forward with his racing dreams.

Jarrod began racing only 2 seasons ago in a 305 at 34 Raceway in his hometown of West Burlington, with a
family pieced together car- Jarrod’s car, dad’s parts, and uncle Gary’s motor.  His biggest accomplishment that
season was starting 18th and running 5th at a World of Outlaws weekend at 34 Raceway.  After running only
six races, Jarrod hit the road with Jesse Hockett, where they crisscrossed the country hitting USAC and any
360 or 410 races they could fit in the schedule.  Jarrod was able to pick up a lot of racing knowledge while on
the road for most of the 2008 season and is able to work that knowledge into his own car.

In 2009, Schneiderman ran again weekly at 34 Raceway, where his uncle, John Schulz, served as crew chief
for him, in addition to running his own Sprint Invaders 360 schedule.  Jarrod had an impressive first full season
in the 305- with six top 5 finishes; 13 top 10 finishes in 16 starts; and a highest finish of 3rd place.  This
placed him in 5th place for overall points at 34 Raceway.

Jarrod plans to move to 410 competition down the road, so he cites the natural progression to a 360 as being
his motivation to move up a class.  With his dad and brother already making the weekly trek to Knoxville, it made
sense that Jarrod would run most Saturday nights at Knoxville, in addition to his Sprint Invaders competition.
Jarrod hopes for a few top 10 and top 5 finishes, but mainly looks forward to gaining confidence and becoming
comfortable in the 360.  With the Sprint Invader’s traveling schedule, Jarrod also hopes to become a consistent
driver across many tracks.

The 20-year old Southeastern Community College student also works concrete when he’s not busy with the
sprint car.  In any spare time Jarrod might have, he enjoys time fishing.  In addition to his dad, Bart,
and brother, Josh- Jarrod’s mom, Suzie and sister, Janelle are also big fans and watch his racing whenever possible.

Crew for the #88 J & J, Bobby Jack’s Racing Engine Sprint are Rich Roark, Cale Riley, and John Schulz.

Sponsors of the Deuce Motorsports #88 include i-Wireless, Shottenkirk’s Parts Express, Blackbird Motorsports,
J & J Steel, Zaiser’s Landscaping, and Midland Performance.  Jarrod has shirts for sale and this happens
to be Deuce Motorsport’s 25th season of racing- so there are a few surprises for fans that stop by this season!
